As much as I want to teach my kids (2-3) a lesson (eg don’t throw a towel on the floor), they can’t listen when they are crying and highly emotional. An alternative is to show them what to do if they are at that point not in the best state to do it and explain that I’m helping him this time and he will do it next time.
Don’t use bribes to get compliance. It often increases the friction next because they learn they can negotiate.
